Dr. Pijush Ray

Dr. Pijush Ray is a distinguished Consultant Physician and Geriatrician, who took on the role of Hospital Medical Director at Good Hope Hospital, part of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, in February 2025. A medical graduate of the University of Calcutta (MBBS, MD, 1987), he holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, London) and is an active member of the Royal College of Physicians, the British Medical Association, and the British Geriatrics Society.

Dr. Ray commenced his medical career in 1987 and joined University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust in 2007. Over the years, he held several senior leadership positions including Consultant Physician, Group Clinical Director of Medicine, and Deputy Chief Medical Officer. His clinical interests and expertise span frailty, dementia, delirium, general internal medicine, and geriatric care, areas in which he has contributed significantly to service development and patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical and managerial roles, Dr Ray serves as a panel member with the General Medical Council (GMC), contributing to Tests of Competence and revalidation assessments, underscoring his commitment to professional standards and medical education.

Highly regarded as a compassionate leader and mentor, Dr Ray is dedicated to fostering a culture of dignity, empathy, and respect in healthcare-principles embodied in his professional ethos: “Value others and they value you.”

Dr. Ray is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of doctors, with a particular interest in supporting BSMC graduates aspiring to pursue postgraduate training and medical careers in the UK, offering tailored guidance, insight, and ongoing mentorship.

Dr. Gautamananda Ray

Dr. Gautamananda Ray is a Consultant Physician in Acute and Stroke Medicine at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, part of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. He completed his MBBS from the University of Calcutta (1990) at B.S. Medical College, followed by an MD in General Medicine from the University of Bombay (1997) at T.N. Medical College. He also holds the FCPS (General Medicine) from the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Bombay (1997), and MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians (2002). He has been awarded Fellowships from all three Royal Colleges—Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London—and is a Scottish Quality & Safety Fellow (Cohort 7, 2015).

Dr Ray undertook specialist registrar training in General Internal Medicine, Acute Medicine, and Stroke Medicine through the West of Scotland Deanery from 2003 to 2008, achieving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) via the JRCPTB. He is currently an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and actively contributes to postgraduate medical education and training. He is a Specialist Training Committee member for Acute Medicine and serves as an MRCP PACES examiner and Chair, both in the UK and internationally. He also acts as an external advisor for consultant interviews with the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians in the UK and has supervised numerous postgraduate trainees and medical students.

He is actively involved in clinical research and has been Principal Investigator for multiple projects in Acute and Stroke Medicine. Internationally, he contributes to the editorial board of JIMA (India). His passion for quality improvement is evident in his role as Lead for the Clyde Improvement Den (NHS GGC), as well as his involvement with the Society for Acute Medicine’s QI Network and the Health Foundation’s Q Community.

Dr Ray is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of doctors and is especially keen to support BSMC graduates looking to pursue postgraduate training and careers in the UK. Whether it’s preparing for MRCP, planning career steps, working on QI projects, or building a strong portfolio, he is happy to advise and guide.

Dr. Shreela Ghosh

Shreela graduated from Bankura Sammilani Medical College in 2008 and completed her postgraduation in Anaesthetics in India. She worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Kolkata until 2018 before moving to the UK under the Medical Training Initiative (MTI) scheme.

After two years as a Clinical Fellow in the NHS, she began her CESR journey and successfully gained Consultant status in 2022. Currently, she works as a Consultant Anaesthetist in the NHS, mentors medical students from the University of Cambridge, and serves as a GMC-recognised trainer.

She is happy to be contacted by fellow anaesthetists interested in exploring career opportunities in the UK.

Dr. Ruchira Das

Ruchira completed her MBBS in 2011 and her internship in 2012 from BSMC. She completed her MD in Radiology in 2016 and moved to the UK in 2017 .

She initially started as SAS doctor for 6 months before moving on to a locum consultant post in 2017.

She is currently in a substantive post as a consultant radiologist in the NHS through the CESR route. She is actively involved in governance, training and mentoring in close association with the Northwest School of Radiology. She is also a named clinical and educational supervisor, appraiser and member of the ARCP panel.
