BSMC Alumni UK Chapter: A Legacy Across Borders
The Bankura Sammilani Medical College (BSMC) Alumni UK Chapter is more than just a network—it’s a family of kindred spirits bound by shared memories, values, and a deep love for our alma mater.
🌍 Our Beginning
The seeds of this vibrant community were sown on a snowy evening in December 2006, in a cozy Glasgow living room. What started as a casual dinner hosted by Satya Da became the birthplace of an idea that would bring generations of BSMC alumni in the UK together.
That night, Dr. Gautamananda Ray met Priyo Da and Usha Di—both proud BSMC alumni. Over heartfelt conversations and nostalgia, they lamented the absence of a dedicated alumni gathering like other Kolkata medical colleges had. They wondered—what if we could bridge the early arrivals of the 70s and 80s with the influx of doctors arriving in the late 90s and 2000s?
With a handful of passionate individuals and no formal resources, they began reaching out. From Birmingham to Manchester, London to Glasgow, alumni like Sisir Da, Pijush Da, Subir Da, and many others stepped in. Against all odds, the first BSMC UK Reunion was held on 28th May 2007 in London—marking the beginning of an unforgettable journey.
📈 Our Growth
From that humble gathering, the BSMC UK Alumni Chapter has grown into a close-knit, pan-generational family. Over the years, annual reunions have brought us together in cities across the UK—Walsall, Manchester, Glasgow, Warwick, Sunderland, Gloucester, Newcastle and Bournemouth.
The 2025 reunion was successfully organised in Milton Keynes. The 2026 reunion, which will mark the 20th year of reunion as well, is planned to be organised in Glasgow.
Each event has strengthened our ties and welcomed new faces—from pioneers like Satyen Da to the latest members like Devika, Piya, Shreela, Ruchira, Priyanka, Suchandana, and others. Children, parents, and spouses have become an integral part of this journey—turning our reunions into full-family celebrations.

- Selfless Commitment: The chapter is driven by tireless volunteers who embody dedication—like Ashish Da, who attended the full Gloucester reunion before undergoing surgery the next day.

We are proud of our roots in Bankura and grateful for the journey that has brought us together in the UK. What began with a single idea has become a legacy of connection, culture, and care. The BSMC UK Alumni Chapter is a testament to the enduring bond we all share—as doctors, as friends, and as proud members of the BSMC family.
